Questions and exam patterns

This is the authoring half of KattralOne, and it works in a fixed order: sections and topics organise your questions, and an exam pattern decides how questions are drawn into a paper.

Sections and topics

Sections organise your question bank, and nest: section → topic → subtopic. Create this structure before writing many questions — every question is filed under it, and exam patterns pull from it. Reorganising later is possible but tedious.

Questions

Manage questions lists your institute's bank. Search, filter and paginate to find one; open it to edit; delete what you no longer need.

Add question writes a new one. You can attach an image to a question, which is what most diagram-based questions need.

Deleting a question does not alter papers already built with it. Existing papers keep the question as it was.

Exam patterns

An exam pattern is the shape of an exam, independent of any particular question: how many questions come from which section, and how marks are distributed.

Create a pattern by defining its sections and marks. The total has to add up — a distribution that does not balance is rejected on save, which is the most common reason a pattern will not save.

Patterns are versioned. Editing one creates a new version rather than overwriting the old, so papers built on an earlier version stay intact. The pattern list shows version history.

Build a pattern once and reuse it across many papers — that is the point of keeping it separate.
